RETIREE RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘JAN’

Sydney’s Retiree have returned with a second offering, ‘Jan’, out now on Plastic World. Following on from their first single ‘Continental’ released late last year, ‘Jan’ features the band’s signature dreamy vocals and 80’s like drum beats. Whilst maintaining an air of tropical warmth, the song’s vocals, depict a story of loss. Contrasting the immersive, upbeat melody against the hidden emotional meaning see’s Retiree delve further into a sonic exploration of elctro-pop music.

“Jan is a melancholy song in disguise. I started writing it on a train from Germany to Amsterdam on my way to my uncles funeral. The whole song is sort of equal parts reflective, sad and celebratory” – Retiree

‘Jan’ offers another glimpse into the ever-evolving Retiree world, a follow-up release after ‘Continental’ in 2016. Their previous records are noteworthy in themselves – debut self-titled EP through dance imprint Plastic World, and ‘This Place’ – 2015’s globe-trotting release, championed by London tastemakers Rhythm Section. Featured by the likes of Fact Magazine, Fader, Resident Advisor and The Guardian, Retiree have cemented their reputation for unique, 80’s tropical-pop tinged dance floor heaters and a textured headphone experience for audiophiles alike.
