A Quick Chat with And Beyond

You’re two brothers making music together, which must come with a level of honesty that other collaborators might not have. How does being family shape the way you challenge each other creatively?

Being brothers, I feel like we are generally on the same page creatively as we are so close in age - we grew up together so we tend to have similar thoughts towards things when working on a project.

I think the biggest thing collaborating together is that we are able to be brutally honest with each other. If something doesn’t feel right, we usually both get a sense of it pretty early, and if we’re not on the same page with an idea we don’t have to walk on eggshells to come to an agreement!

Your sound pulls from hip-hop, electronic and punk influences, creating something that feels pretty hard to put in one box. How important is it to you both to keep pushing beyond genre expectations?

I think it’s really important for us, I feel like when we first jumped into hiphop we felt bound to a scene that didn’t fully represent who we are as people and creatives. Now, we make whatever feels right, and whatever we are creatively pulled to. We grew up with a lot of influences from different genres and I hope that shows in our music, and inspires other artists to push more boundaries and feel comfortable being themselves.

You’re heading to BIGSOUND fresh off the release of β€˜Pageant’. What does that track represent for where And Beyond is at creatively right now?

I think β€˜Pageant’ represents where we're currently at and heading in our journey. We are loving experimenting with punk influences and shifting gears into a new space that we have never been in before. If anything, I feel like creatively things have never flowed this easy for us, so it’s super exciting as it feels like we’re on a new path.

BIGSOUND puts emerging artists in front of new audiences and the wider music industry, but your live shows already have a reputation for bringing a lot of energy. What can people expect when they see And Beyond live in that environment?

ENERGY. We want to showcase what And Beyond is all about.

We always try to bring a lot of energy when we perform, and that will be the same at BIGSOUND!

We will be performing a lot of music from our upcoming album which is made for high energy environments.

Your next single, β€˜Fist Up (Break It Down)’, lands on September 11. Without giving too much away, what can you tell us about the track and how it continues to build on the world you’ve been creating?

If you liked β€˜Pageant’ we think you'll love β€˜Fist Up (Break It Down)’. This track really speaks for how people may be feeling about the current state of the world. It's another hard hitting punk inspired song that will make you put your fist in the air.

You’ve got BIGSOUND, new music and plenty of momentum behind you right now. What would a successful next 12 months look like for And Beyond?

I think a successful next 12 months would include things like releasing this album, releasing our next album, a national tour, and connecting with more of our fan base nationally and internationally. It already feels amazing to have been able to get to this point with music so anything else on top of that would
