PREMIERE: 'TAKE FLIGHT' - OLD CITIES

“Take Flight” is an anthemic pop rock tune, driven by striking guitar tones and hooky melodies. It lyrically follows the journey of two innocent lovers, forgetting the craziness around them and opening their eyes to see the beauty of the world, despite the mess that may be their reality. The track holds a sense of youthful teenage nostalgia, taking you back to a time where things were just as simple as being in love. The track sounds like a fusion between U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name” and LANY’s “ILYSB”.

Jordi White took on the name Old Cities for his solo project in late 2016 after his first track “I’ll See Her Again” was shortlisted for the prestigious Vanda & Young songwriting competition. The idea for this name is two-fold. Firstly, White was born in Nazareth, Israel to Australian parents who were ex-pats at the time. The suburb of the hospital he was born in is called “the Old City”. Secondly Old Cities is a concept based around a metaphor for life, with each moment in life falling into two major categories... The moments or “Cities” we restore, show off, tell and retell stories of, and the moments or “Cities” we let lie in ruin and hope no one ever stumbles upon. However if you study history you realise that even those “Old Cities” that now lie in ruins have stories that could fill pages of life, love and loss.

Old Cities are also having a launch show on the 15th of Feb at the Chippo Hotel (8pm) to celebrate the release of Take Flight.
