Julia Jacklin announces headline shows for Melb & Syd
JULIA JACKLIN ANNOUNCES BIGGEST HEADLINE SHOWS TO DATE THIS MAY WITH SPECIAL GUESTS + REVEALS VIDEO FOR βCOMING OF AGEβ
After what can only be described as a whirlwind period following the release of her critically acclaimed debut Donβt Let The Kids Win, Frontier Touring and Liberation Music are pleased to announce Julia Jacklin will return to home soil this May to play her biggest Australian headline stages to date. Julia will perform at Melbourneβs Corner Hotel on Wednesday 24 May and Sydneyβs Metro Theatre on Thursday 25 May with main support from Jaala in both cities and openers Rough River in Melbourne and Elizabeth Hughes in Sydney.
The news comes just days after revealing the video clip for her album track βComing Of Ageβ. A resolve to accept the passing of time, the snappy fuzz of βComing of Ageβ perfectly encapsulates the mood of Juliaβs debut. All of the videos from the album to date - βPool Partyβ, βLeadlightβ and title track βDonβt Let The Kids Winβ β have been creatively directed by Julia herself with βComing of Ageβ being no exception to the recipe.
Julia explains the concept behind the clip:
"I spent a lot of my teenage years wandering the streets of my hometown Springwood, so it seemed fitting to make the music video for βComing of Ageβ with my high school friend behind the camera and my younger brother and I in front. My first job was at the Springwood Gardens Chinese Restaurant and I managed to get my old boss in a shot. I didn't think he'd remember me, it's been a decade since I spent my weekends cleaning plates and putting prawn crackers in the deep fryer."
Of the track, Julia said:
βItβs louder than my other songsβ¦more guitars, more noise. Itβs about the need for a new muse when one has given you all it can. Itβs also like a mirror pep talk. Looking at yourself in the mirror and saying, βCome on girl, stop fretting over the passing of time and just get to work!β
To say the past year has been a busy one for the Sydney-based artist would be an understatement. In October last year Julia released her stunning debut LP to a rapturous response. Julia toured the UK and US with headline shows and as main support for Whitney and Marlon Williams, played The Great Escape in Brighton and at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
Back home, in addition to playing to sell-out crowds on her national album tour and joining the hugely successful Laneway Festival circuit, Julia also managed to bring the country to tears with her stirring rendition of The Strokesβ βSomedayβ on triple jβs Like A Version.
Julia continues her international rise this month, returning to the UK, US and Europe for a slew of headline shows β including a sold out 800-capacity Scala in London β and billings on some very respected international festival such as Primavera in Barcelona, Field Day in London, Pickathon in Oregon and Down The Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands.
Joining Julia on her homecoming shows will be Melbourneβs own Jaala who burst onto the scene in 2015 with debut album Hard Hold. Last year saw the release of single βJunior Spiritβ the first single from the forthcoming sophomore LP. Jaalaβs sound affectionately referred to as shed, a cathartic blend of jangly indie-rock and proggy art-pop.
In Melbourne get there early for local opener Rough River, the project of local singer-songwriter Kate Skinner who released her new single βTrue Wildβ in January this year will follow up with her sophomore LP The Leaving later this year β the follow up to her self-titled debut.
Opening proceedings in Sydney will be solo artist Elizabeth Hughes, who plays with Julia in Phantastic Ferniture and also hails from the Blue Mountains. Elizabeth released βVideo Shootβ in August β the first single from her debut EP set for release this year.
