Dutch Monks' top 5 bands to listen to on the drive to work.
Jesse from Dutch Monks
I love to listen to music on my drive into work each day, it helps me get pumped up for a big day of science in the lab!
Top 5 bands to listen to on the drive to work!
Montana Sharp: Ok, so I am a tad biased on this first oneβ¦Montana sang backing vocals on just about all of the songs on our forthcoming Dutch Monks album, and she is just incredible! We were so lucky to have her come into the studio and add her musical flavour to our tracks as a backing vocalist, it just took the tracks to another level. Montana is a budding young solo artist and recently released her debut single βGreenhouseβ, go check it out! Unfortunately for us we doubt weβll have the pleasure of working with her on our second albumβ¦only because we predict she will be busy touring sold out stadiums by then! (If/when the COVID-19 situation allows of course)
Team Vom: A rocking 5 piece with 2 or 3 different songwriters, spitting out a bunch of different sounds, all of which I love! Interesting mixtures of guitars, keys, electric ukulele sit over a thumping rhythm sectionβ¦Their 2019 album βSloth Gospelβ is one of my favourite albums of all time, rock solid from go to whoa!
Kaku: In my opinion Kaku are one of the tightest, professional rock bands going around Melbourne. Massive Riffs, cool song structures and an incredible live show developed from 5 years of playing together as a band, KaKu are going good places. Check them out if you havenβt already! Iβd describe it as a sound that sits somewhere between the best of Artic Monkeys (that awesome βAMβ album) and Queens Of The Stone Age. Iβd suggest their song βVanity and Clarityβ as a good starting point, and then did deeper from there!
Greg Steps: After meeting Greg at on open mic night we were both playing in Melbourne and grabbing one of his CDβs (sneakily of course, without him knowing), Iβve listened to Gregβs music so much over the last 5 years or so (or is it 10? bloody hell, Iβm getting old!). Very Bob Dylan-esque guitar/harmonica sound with a twangy Queenslander vocal tone and plenty of heart put into each of the tracks. Check out his album with the not for prophets- βThe Overlandβ.
Bad Mother Nature: I only found these guys recently when they basically spammed our band page with a βWe will pre-save your single if you pre-save oursβ kind of social media message....For whatever reason I decided to actually check out their stuff and itβs bloody awesome! Really nice arrangements of guitars and piano, and lots of intricate musicianship. Pretty much playing their stuff on repeat all the time now, so I guess the lesson there is that spam does work sometimes! Hahaβ¦Well played, lads! With guitar solos a plenty and big vocal harmonies, it kind of sounds like a mixture of βThe Black Keysβ and βThe Eaglesββ¦with maybe even a bit of βLed Zeppelinβ influence chucked in there! Check out their new single βRest of Meβ.
