A Quick Chat with Lara Villani

What got you into music?

- I got into music when I was six, jamming on my primary school stage. My sister was into singing lessons, so, of course, I had to copy her. Once I hit that stage for the first time, it was game over – I was hooked. Music went from a cool hobby to a full-on obsession, adding heaps of joy and purpose to my life. This has continued throughout my life :)

What was it like releasing your first single 'Stop’?

- Releasing my first single 'Stop' was a rollercoaster of emotions, you know? It was like putting a piece of my soul out there for the world to hear. The excitement mixed with nerves was real. You spend so much time creating something, pouring your heart into it, and then suddenly it's out in the wild. But seeing the positive responses and people connecting with the music? That was everything. It's like this blend of vulnerability and thrill, and I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything. It's just the start, and I'm stoked to keep this musical journey rolling.

How does it differ from your new single 'Ghost of You'?

- 'Ghost of You' is a bit of a shift from my previous single. While 'Stop' was this intense, emotional rollercoaster that I poured my heart into, 'Ghost of You' comes from a different place. I wrote it from the perspective of a friend, you know? So, it's a bit less personal and emotional for me compared to my first single. It's like stepping into someone else's shoes and telling their story. Both songs are part of this musical journey, each with its own flavor and vibe. 'Ghost of You' is more like a tale I'm sharing, a bit more laid-back but still packing a punch in its own way.

What was your favourite part about writing the track?

- Writing 'Ghost of You' was a blast! The best part? Slipping into someone else's emotions and writing the lyrics from their perspective. It's like trying on a different emotional hat and seeing the world from a whole new angle. The whole creative process became this awesome ride where I connected with feelings in a way I hadn't before. It's like diving into a pool of emotions and turning them into music. The whole thing was an amazing experience and something new for me creatively.

You have a music video for this one. Can you tell us a little bit about that?

- Oh, the music video for 'Ghost of You' was an absolute blast to create! I teamed up with the fantastic team at Tier One Productions to bring this project to life. In the video, I take on the role of a figment of someone's imagination. You know, those moments in toxic relationships where you've got your blinders on, but there's this little voice in your head screaming at you to break free. I really wanted to capture that internal struggle visually, to make it tangible for the song. Collaborating on the video was a whole new level of creative energy, and I'm so happy with how it turned out!

What else do you have planned for the year?

- Ah, exciting things on the horizon! Currently, we're in the early stages of planning my debut gig – can't wait to hit the stage and connect with everyone in person! And, of course, there's more music in the pipeline. I've got more singles lined up, each with its own unique vibe and story. So, stay tuned for the gig updates and the fresh tracks coming your way cannot wait to see what this year brings.
