A Quick Chat with Curly Mojo
‘Roads Walked (DANCE MODE)’ balances uplifting dance energy with some pretty deep themes. What inspired the track?
Roads Walked (DANCE MODE) definitely touches on some pretty big social issues that I feel we all face at some stage. It aims to make listeners more aware of mental health, mental wellbeing and all the fake that seems to surround us everywhere these days. If we stand together, there is definitely hope, and the last verse takes listeners to this space.
You recorded every instrument yourself at Silent H Studios before sending the track to Austin Leeds in Miami. What was that creative process like?
The creative process in nearly all my songs and writing is the same. Life happens and I can't help but put music to it. I have been playing since I was 12, recording and writing on Cubase for 22 years, and I still love it. I've been working with Austin Leeds for years, and he adds an amazing element in the final stages of production, mixing and mastering music like a Jedi.
The song feels designed for both the dancefloor and personal reflection. Was that contrast intentional from the beginning?
Absolutely. Everything I write comes from such a personal place in my life, and the intention from the beginning of writing this song was to have people moving their feet and moving their minds to the same beat.
You’ve described the track as a ‘ray of hope.’ What message do you hope listeners take away from it?
As I mentioned earlier, the aim is for listeners to become more aware of their own mental health and wellbeing. The final verse gives listeners a ray of hope, which is much needed right now. If we don't stand together, there is no hope in my opinion, and we all need to make a small change towards good every day.
As a solo artist creating such a huge full-band sound, what are some of the ‘clever tricks’ you use in the studio and live setting?
In performance and studio time, I use an array of pedalboards with live looping, live triggering and multi-layer effects at the same time as playing guitar and singing, which is basically all my body can do at once. My sound is pretty huge and the live show is set to impress, so I'm excited to show the world what I am and what I have to give.
With support from radio stations across Australia and growing momentum behind the project, what’s next for Curly Mojo heading into 2026?
So far the support for Curly Mojo has been huge and very appreciated. With over a dozen radio stations, venues, a first festival next month and strong online traction, I can't wait to see where this project goes in 2026 and beyond. The big goal this year is to show people what I am in the hope that it resonates, and if online engagement is anything to go by, it should be a pretty special year.
The big dream is to one day have an amazing backing band and great management. You've got to have a dream! Please don't forget to check out my socials and YouTube channel, now with over 30,000 subscribers, which is pretty cool. Go have a look and let me know what you think. Much love!
