A Quick Chat with Stelle
All Kinds of Weather explores different emotional seasons across relationships and self-growth. What made that title feel like the perfect fit for the EP?
‘All Kinds of Weather’ felt like the perfect title for my debut EP because I feel like each song captures a different emotional “season.” They’re all quite different emotionally but still fit together as one story. I loved the idea that emotions change and move the same way weather does, and that life always has its ups and downs; good and bad weather.
‘People Pleaser Tendencies’ feels incredibly honest and relatable. What was the moment or experience that inspired the song?
The second track on the EP, ‘People Pleaser Tendencies’, came from realising how I changed myself to keep other people happy, even when they wouldn’t do the same for me. I wrote the song to share my experience of trying to be what everyone else needed, which often meant neglecting what I needed for myself. It didn’t come from a specific moment, more just an accumulation of realisations over time. It was an honest song for me to write, and a way of unpacking those challenging feelings through music, and I think it can resonate with a lot of people.
You’ve mentioned artists like Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone and Maggie Rogers as inspirations. What is it about their songwriting that resonates with you most?
I really connect with how emotionally detailed their songwriting is. Artists like Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone and Maggie Rogers write in a way that feels conversational and specific. Their songs feel personal and have such a strong emotional impact. I am also really inspired by their production choices for their music.
‘Seasonal’ received strong support from Triple J Unearthed and community radio. How did it feel seeing people connect with that track?
It was honestly really encouraging. ‘Seasonal’ is a song that I’m super proud of, so seeing people connect with it through positive Triple J Unearthed reviews, along with community radio support, makes me feel confident in sharing my music. ‘Back To The Flame’, the third EP track, is also gaining some momentum and is currently sitting at #20 on America’s Abreak Music Top 58 charts. It is so incredible to see my music reaching people both nationally and internationally.
You launched the EP with a full-band regional show. What was that experience like, and what did it mean to bring these songs to a live audience?
The live show was such a special experience. Performing the EP songs with a full band was incredible and it was amazing getting to share the EP in a space where everyone could really connect with the music together. I’m still reliving the show in my head — it was so rewarding seeing everything come together after spending so much time working on the EP and planning the launch. I’m incredibly grateful to have had the project supported by Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Scenic Rim Regional Council that supports local arts and culture in regional Queensland. Bringing live music to regional communities is important to me, since I’ve grown up in a regional area, and I feel very lucky to have been able to share the EP in a space like that.
Looking ahead, what’s one thing you hope listeners take away from All Kinds of Weather?
I hope listeners take away the notion that it’s okay to go through different emotional seasons, and that life isn’t always linear. I’d love for people to find a piece of themselves somewhere in the EP and feel a little less alone in whatever they are experiencing.
