A QUICK CHAT WITH RADICALS
Can you tell us the story behind ‘falling faster slowly’?
The idea behind the song came about when our lead singer had too big of a day, took too many substances and ended up shaving his head. When he woke up the next day, he got writing and brought the song to practice. The whole song basically runs through that day and the feelings he went through. It’s a massive trip.
What messages do you hope to convey to your audience through your music?
We just hope our music makes people feel. Whether its happy, sad, excited, upset, we don’t mind. Music is an incredible thing and as long as people enjoy the songs, we make we’re stoked, and even if they don’t enjoy it that’s okay with us too.
What brought all the band members together to form RADICALS?
Brandon (vocals/guitar) pulled us all together. He knew Myles (drummer) from primary school as the school’s drummer and he knew Nick (bass) from music class in high school. One day he hit us all up and said, “let’s start a band”, we all said “okay”, then further down the track came our new guy Lachy (guitar).
I know you lot are influenced by the likes of Nirvana and Silverchair, but this song gives hints of Royal Blood and The Black Keys, even Nothing But Thieves. What does your current listening diet consist of?
Wow thank you so much! Funnily enough all those acts are exactly what were listening to right now. Some other sick acts also include Life After Youth who are this grunge/pop band from the states, also Highly Suspect, the new Limp Bizkit and even some heavier stuff like these UK lads Loathe who are sick!
Do you have any hectic tour stories or studio stories to share?
We definitely have a bunch. Our favourites though would probably be at our first ever show Brandon got glassed and cut up “unintentionally” mid song. Apparently, the guy was so excited he was throwing himself around and his glass flew out of his hands directly at the stage. Another time we were playing a sold-out seated show at Miranda Hotel and the whole crowd got so geed up that they started a chair mosh pit. People we’re kicking each other in their chairs, breaking chairs by jump up in the air and landing on them, and eventually throwing their chairs around the entire venue. The show got shut down quickly after that hahaha!
2022 is off to a chaotic start, but do you have any resolutions or goals for the year?
Amen to that! We’re just hoping to play as many shows as possible where people are allowed to stand, dance and enjoy themselves. We’re set to play Yours & Owls Festival which is pretty exciting so we can’t wait for that. Basically just give us some more good shows and killer times and we’ll be happy.
