A Quick Chat with Jacob Fitzgerald

Firstly, well done on your standout new single 'Muse'; we're looking forward to hearing and seeing this one live! What can audiences expect on your upcoming tour promoting the new track? Will they also be treated to some exclusive snippets of forthcoming new material, as well as some of the crowd favourites?

Thank you!! It’s a fun one to play live that’s for sure.

We’re stoked to be touring the East Coast alongside Selfish Sons this August. You can expect BIG energy from our set. We want everyone sweating with us while we’re up there. There’ll be few of the old ones dating as far back to the first EP , as well as brand new, unreleased music. We love teasing what’s on the horizon when playing live… we might even play a few too many of them HAHA!

What does your gear setup comprise of, in terms of guitars, pedals and amps?

I’m a simple man on stage, and now that I’m front-manning/strutting more, my gear setup has become close to non-existent. Especially when on support tours!

However, I still enjoy bringing my Maton-M808 or my Telecaster up for a song or two. No pedals. Just my trusty Fender Amp and I’m golden.

Tell us more about your band members.
We've been told they're like your personal 'E-Street Band' - what earns them this renown title exactly?

Well for starters, remember these names. Alex Walker, Reuben Hawkes, Dakota Smith and Mitchell Geddes. Lemme give you a bit about them.

Alex “Rick” Walker: Sydney born bass GOD. Wicked on all things groove and vibe. Has been pivotal in my songwriting and production of late. He’s my soul brother and someone I will never take for granted.

Reuben Hawkes: Baby-faced king of the skins. Been my day one. Incredibly hard working and the tightest drummer I know. We began playing music together back in 2018 and haven’t looked back since. We’ve been brothers for so long now he has his own milk carton at my house for his Milo addiction.

Dakota Smith: Our little Darwinite. He shreds and knows music. Knows what to add and when to add it. He’s the life of every tour, every car ride and every rehearsal. Easily one of the funniest men I know and adds so much to our sound. Everyone needs a Dakota handy.

Mitchell Geddes: Mitch is the newest member of the JF team. We’ve recently had to see our sister Charlee Hawkes take a step back from the unit while she finishes up becoming a powerhouse lawyer. Thus, Mitch has had some big shoes to fill. And boy does he!!

The coolest, calmest most badass keys/synth/sax player we could’ve asked for. He’s pure presence and pure class. When you see the show, you’ll know what I mean.

Honestly, they’re just all fricken killer. I’m so blessed to be playing which such talented musicians and even more blessed I can call them my friends.

They are just as much “Jacob Fitzgerald” as I am. When you think of me, the show, the music, they’re there too. They make what I do more enjoyable and more energetic. I mean Reuben often gets a bigger cheer than I do when he walks on stage.

They have elevated the music to something I couldn’t do alone. For as long as they want in, they’re in. Get used to their names, get used to their sounds. They’re mega. Perhaps we should add a name to the collective? “Jacob Fitzgerald & The…”

If a Jacob Fitzgerald live show was a cocktail, what ingredients would be in this fine concoction?
We talking shaken or stirred?
Be descriptive and bring this to life with words, c'mon sell us the dream man! :)

We’ve recently discovered that there is a legitimate cocktail called ‘The Fitzgerald”. Honestly, it sums us up perfectly. It consists of dry gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and bitters. Give it a shake of course and it basically becomes a lemon lime and bitters with a kick.

That’s the live show own to a tee. We’re tasty, easy to digest and just the perfect amount of zesty. A swig of us and we’ll make you wanna dance babyyyyy! Try one for us yeah!?

What is your ultimate dream festival lineup you'd treat fans to (featuring Jacob Fitzgerald of course). No roof on the budget, dead or alive, hit us with your most badass curation skills, and go!

It’d be a night of big band, high energy acts that’s for sure. I feel like my list could be a mile long, so I’ll keep it to my top few.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

INXS

Queen (gotta have Freddie back though…)

Harry Styles

Then slot us in there somewhere and I’d die a happy man.
