A Quick Chat with Isabelle Skye

What are the origins of ‘Isabelle Skye’ as a solo project? Where did it start?
My project Isabelle Skye has been a part of my identity for as long as I can remember. I began performing as a solo act, but after releasing my debut single ‘Fairy Dust’, I realised how much I wanted to keep experimenting — collaborating with producers and performing with a live band. While my early work leaned toward rock and alternative sounds, I’ve grown to love creating dreamy indie-pop. My new single captures that evolution, blending lush melodies with a subtle psychedelic edge.

Tell us a bit about the new single. What does it mean to you?
‘Kaleidoscope’ came from that moment with dating when everything feels like it’s going well, but their actions start to conflict with their words. It’s the realization that your view of the connection doesn’t match theirs. To me, it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope—beautiful and captivating, yet fragmented and confusing, with reality shifting in unexpected ways. This is the first song as a part of this project that I'll be launching with a live band so it's a very momentous moment for me.

Are there any inspirations you look to beyond music when writing or performing?
Outside of music, my inspiration comes from my love of the mythical and the surreal—fairytales, folklore, and the feeling of slipping between reality and imagination. I like to mix these themes in with my own experiences with relationships being a huge focus.

Name the songs that have informed your song writing more than any others.
Sexy to Someone - Clairo
Love, You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley
California Shake - Margo Guryan
Storms - Fleetwood Mac

What Australian artists are you listening to at the moment?
I've been loving the new Parcels album, Babe Rainbow and since I’m a vintage music lover I have to throw in Daddy Cool!

How do you hope your music might impact listeners?
While my experiences are uniquely my own, the emotions behind them are universal. I hope listeners can find a sense of solace and connection in my music.
