What was the starting point for 'Heaven', and what made you want to develop the idea into a full song?

I had a small home studio set up in my apartment, and I was working every day on music, writing while I was recording and using the recording process as an instrument in a way for the songs to develop. It was a really exciting time musically, and a lot of songs were written during this period. 'Heaven' was one of the songs that was written. The whole process took about a day, from having nothing to being completely written and demoed.

You’ve described the period when you wrote 'Heaven' as 'maybe the most prolific songwriting period' of your life. What was driving that creativity?

I would say work ethic. I was just really focused and disciplined about working on music every day and recording demos.

The song went through quite a few changes during the recording process. What was the biggest challenge in getting it finished?

We had some trouble getting the mix right, but we got there in the end. There are so many moving parts, and trying to find that balance sonically while still capturing the feeling and energy of the song was challenging, but I’m so happy with the result.

What did working with Joel Myles at Hunting Ground Studios bring to 'Heaven'?

Joel is just a wonderful producer. He brings so much care and excitement, as well as incredible knowledge and technical ability, and he keeps getting better at his craft all the time. It’s really amazing to see.

Do you feel 'Heaven' represents a change in direction for you musically?

I think it’s more of an evolution of my writing and being more secure within my writing about how I want to sound and write music, but I’m sure my tastes and writing will change again.

What do you hope listeners take away from 'Heaven'?

I just hope people enjoy it. If they take anything away from it or can connect with it on some deeper level, that’s a massive bonus.
