REVIEW: LCD Soundsystem - Hordern Pavillion, Sydney
On Monday night LCD Soundsystem passed through Sydney to play their Splendour In The Grass sideshow. The recently reunited band was welcomed into open arms at the Horden Pavilion with a sold out show.
With the iconic disco ball spinning above them the band of 8 walked out to βWalk The Nightβ by Skatt Bros accompanied by a screaming crowd.
They opened with two classics from their debut album βYr Cityβs a Suckerβ and βDaft Punk is Playing At My Houseβ which instantly had the crowd moving.
After a couple more songs lead singer, James Murphy kindly asked fans to be less focused on filming with phones, as he wanted to see Sydneyβs beautiful faces. He then introduced their latest ballad βAmerican Dreamβ which captured the audienceβs heart with its dreamy, 80βs influenced synths and tender lyrics.
The band continued playing the fan loved classics and new music from their successful catalogue that had audience members echoing lyrics as Murphy belted out the hooks while his band provided the many catchy melodies, punchy basslines and prominent percussive patterns.
A friendly chemistry between the 8 members was portrayed by the band, with the performers constantly moving around to help with parts and singing to each other, which was highlighted in their performance of βNew York, I Love You but Youβre Bringing Me Downβ.
Honest humour even played a part in the show when Murphy announced the band would not have an encore but would be required to leave the stage for a much needed bathroom break.
The band returned to the stage playing an energetic performance of βDance Yrself Cleanβ and the emotional hit, βAll My Friendsβ that brought their performance to a close leaving many audience members in tears.
