REVIEW: A Day To Remember & Papa Roach – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Words: Rhys Carman

Wednesday night in Melbourne and Rod Laver Arena was absolutely heaving.

If you got there early, you already know that LANDMVRKS were off their head. Seriously tight, massive sound, and just owned the stage like a band that knows they are on the verge of something big. They have set a serious standard for themselves now. It genuinely felt like watching a future international act warming up, not an opener.

Papa Roach came out and turned the whole place into a full-blown nu-metal party. The crowd was instantly up and about, bouncing, screaming, arms everywhere. Scars absolutely went off. Proper goosebumps stuff with the entire arena singing along. They dropped a few newer tracks too which got plenty of love, but the classics hit hardest and had the place buzzing from front to back.

Then A Day to Remember hit the stage and just took over.

Every single song landed. No misses.

From the first riff the floor turned into chaos in the best way. The crowd was surging, pits opening everywhere, people screaming every word like their life depended on it. You had those massive heavy breakdowns getting the whole arena moving, then straight into those catchy pop-punk moments that had everyone, especially the girly pop crew, absolutely up and about.

It is that perfect balance they do better than anyone. Heavy as hell one second, huge singalong the next.

At one point near me someone had to bail out of the mosh early with what looked like broken ribs as soon as ADTR kicked off. That pretty much sums up how cooked the pit was.

Energy was 15 out of 10.
Sound was 20 out of 10.
Light show was ridiculous.

Packed out arena, no voices left, bodies wrecked. The kind of Wednesday night that feels like a full weekend festival.

LANDMVRKS set the tone.
Papa Roach brought the heat.
A Day to Remember stole the show. As always.
