LALKA releases debut single + video 'Dare You To Love Me'
Introducing LALKA, a subversive new DIY electro audio-visual project from a prolific, classically trained Brisbane creative.
LALKA has just released her debut single Dare You To Love Me and its darkly opulent self-directed video.
Seething with erratic allure, Dare You To Love Me's chest-pounding synth hook draws inspiration from trap and the more visceral, gritty corners of electronica. The producer, songwriter, musician and vocalist describes the inspiration for the track as "observations from an outsider; an emotional response to the political and social climate we find ourselves in". Whilst admitting she is no geopolitical expert, LALKA reveals it was written the day Donald Trump announced the travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries to the US.
The song’s music video introduces audiences to LALKA with the use of bewitching visuals. Proving herself a pop auteur in control of every aspect of her work, the video was directed and edited by LALKA. “I wanted to use style and movement to magnify the tone of subversiveness in the music and for the visuals to create a visceral reaction in people,” she explains, having taken inspiration from films such as Pan's Labyrinth and Neon Demon.
LALKA will announce her project's first live shows soon.
