JACK RIVER reveals new single & video for 'Fool's Gold'

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I OH YOU today reveal Jack River’s brand new single ‘Fool’s Gold’. Premiering overnight via Linda Marigliano’s Good Nights on triple j, ‘Fool’s Gold’ carries Jack River into fresh alt-pop territory, unwavering in the glitter and sparkle her sound has become renowned for.

Born on a lonely walk through the streets of New York, ‘Fool’s Gold’ pays homage to the sounds of the early 2000’s and the likes of Weezer, Tame Impala and MGMT.  Written in New York by Jack River, produced in Sydney by Jack River and Xavier Dunn and mixed by Spike Stent (CHVRCHES, Frank Ocean, DMA’S, Spice Girls) the track takes the listener on a seemingly familiar journey:

“I was alone in New York, chasing shiny things. The verses were spinning around my head. I was annoyed at myself for falling for the same things over again without them giving back. But I also knew how human it was to feel like that, and how I’d probably come up against this feeling again and again. I wanted to write a song for that emotion – the relentless humanity in thinking something is gold when it just isn’t. The hope and sadness and repetition, but the sweetness of truth once you find it. It’s also kind of about realising that your fool’s gold is often someone else’s gold and feeling momentarily lonely, but okay with it.” – explains Jack River.

The track is accompanied by a dreamy video directed by Matt Sav (Tame Impala, POND) and Jack River. Shot in Perth the clip features various characters that depict the numerous fragments of emotion within the song.

“Matt and I wanted to illuminate the lyrics in surreal ways. With the aesthetic we wanted to pay homage to the musical production – shifting between super grainy and highly produced tones. Aside from the deliberately apparent scenes with the couple, there is a constant line of surrealism between the subject and what they want. Matt nailed that elusive line of thought between the songwriter and director.” – Jack River explains.

‘Fool’s Gold’ follows Jack River’s debut EP Highway Songs No. 2 which thrust Jack River into public consciousness in October 2016 and featured favourites ‘Palo Alto’ and ‘Talk Like That’.

As if releasing an EP and writing an album wasn’t enough, Holly Rankin (aka Jack River), is also responsible for the Grow Your Own Festival which successfully celebrated its inaugural event in December 2016 with a total sell out of tickets.

She has also this year launched Electric Lady – a movement with a focus on recognising women who excel in their fields. Electric Lady culminates with all-female band nights in Sydney (next Friday 30 June at Metro Theatre) and Melbourne (next Saturday 1 July at The Corner) featuring Alex Lahey, Ali Barter, Gretta Ray, Bec Sandridge, Jack River, Body Type and Rackett. Hit up www.electriclady.world for tickets and more information.
