A Quick Chat with Figurehead

Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?

This track aims to cover the complex variety of feelings that you can go through during a relationship breakdown, and we hope that people can find comfort or catharsis from its words, or groove and vibe from its rhythm and melodies.

Who are some of your influences, and why?

We all listen to so many different kinds of music, so finding a blend of our influences is important to us forming a more personal sound. Artists like The Killers and Silverchair come to mind as common influences for all of us.

What’s the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?

Depending on the song, someone from the band will bring either a full song, chords, a melodic idea, or lyrics to the band. It's then a matter of tightening it up, testing it live and then deciding if its the right one to record.

What do you think makes a great song?

Songs can be great for many different reasons, music has so many purposes. Music I am likely to blast in the gym is different to music I'll play after a long day of work, or when im getting ready to play a show. However authenticity and hard work shine through in artists who practice both traits.

If you could collaborate with an artist, who would it be and why?

Daniel Johns or Ian Kenney would have so much to teach me, performance wise and to do with song writing and production.

When not working on music, what other creative outlet/s do you have?

Our guitarist, Josh, loves to bake incredible loaves of bread as well as cookies. Declan is always pumping iron in the gym. Jack, our drummer, can be found behind a camera lense. Ross, when not holding the bass, might be admiring vintage cars or trying to cook a new recipe. And I'll be working on visual art or out on the town with friends.

Who are some local bands we should check out?

Devon Street, Navy June, Ricky Neil Jr, Guild, Platypus, Mage, Paperback Fort, Ratking, and Blush, just to name a few!! The list is endless though.

Winter or Summer and why?

Summer, for the beach and not having to layer up when going out, just to take it all off and carry it around once you get too hot.

What else do you have planned for the year?

We've got a few more singles ready to go, as well as some huge shows at Indi Bar, Gage Roads and the Bird planned for the rest of the year. Make sure to check out our page for all that cool stuff!
