A Quick Chat with Torizon

Written by Vocalist, Mish Sharma and Bassist/Vocalist, Ben Gallaher

Could you tell us a bit about Bloom? What drew you to this topic?

Mish: ‘Bloom’ is written about the grief and trauma associated with miscarriage and fertility issues. It’s the first chapter in the story of characters Luna and Sam navigating the loss of their baby. It’s heavy, raw and gutwrenching. The best way to describe it musically is an even mix of Evanescence, Linkin Park and Bad Omens.

We wanted to write a conceptual piece about this specific theme to help others feel seen. A lot of people have experienced pregnancy loss and fertility issues; it's devastating, and no one talks about it. For some reason, there is still shame and stigma around it, which only perpetuates the isolation. Ben and I share vocal duties, which captures the experience of both parents.

Who was involved in the creation?

Mish: Our guitarist Luke wrote the bulk of the instrumentation. Originally, the intro and chorus synths were written to be played on a lead guitar, but we tried synths just for fun one day, and everything just clicked. I did the melodies and lyrics. Our session drummer, Ben Petzold, did the drums; he also played on the previous two singles ‘Damaged’ & ‘Martyr’.

It’s a pretty collaborative process, to be honest, we all leave our egos behind to serve the song. For example, using flowers as a metaphor was Luke’s idea, and he came up with the line ‘my seed that never flowered, now blossom’. Luke also came up with the call-and-response style vocals in the chorus, and we all worked together on the arrangement with our producer Kalen Austin.

What was the process of production like?

Ben: Production was a lot of fun. It was recorded, produced and mixed by Kalen Austin – he is a legend. Kalen was involved from the very start. We spent a few days in his studio in pre-production to ensure that the songwriting, melodic, and lyrical elements worked together. He made the process more enjoyable. Mike Kalajian did the mastering – he has worked with Papa Roach, Bad Omens and even on the Bob’s Burgers movie!

Where/who do you draw influence from when you write?

Ben: One of my favourite artists is Pain of Salvation, they're a progressive metal band. I listen to almost anything and try to incorporate it into my songwriting. So far it has been a great tool, and it's only getting better.

Mish: Evanescence is a big one for me, but also Spiritbox, Bad Omens, Northlane, and even some alt-pop artists like Meg Myers, Lizzie McAlpine, etc. Give me sad music in any form and I’ll enjoy it.

How has 2025 been for the band? What else has been happening in your world?

Mish: 2025 has been about finally putting out all the work we have been doing behind the scenes. I feel that we levelled up in all departments, from branding, to production, songwriting and live shows – the feedback for ‘Bloom’ has been reassuring in that respect. Expect more music, a possible tour, more standalone shows, which may or may not include some handmade limited edition merch items!

How would you describe your live show?

Mish: Dramatic is the keyword. High energy, heavy breakdowns, live harmonies, deliberate spacious passages, dual vocals to get your fix for cleans and screams.

Where can listeners catch you live?

Ben: We are playing at pinkNOISE! Tectonic on June 12th at The Cave Inn, Brisbane. We will be revealing some interstate shows soon. Jump on our socials to stay up to date, please and thanks.
