A quick chat with Silky Roads

Hey guys, congratulations on your new track ‘Pomegranate’! Tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Cheers!! The inspiration for ‘Pomegranate’ has its roots in classic rock and lyrically explores our collective struggles with fear and doubt. However, we wanted it to capture a vintage aesthetic, a kind of a Tarantino feel.

How did Silky Roads form?

Mainly as a group of friends. Guy and Luke started off by messing around on their acoustics and wrote a few songs, and it wasn’t long until Luke invited Nick over to jam. After a jam or two, Guy invited Mitch to come play. What started as a four-guitar band, ended up with Guy on vocals and lead guitar, Luke on the drums, Nick on the bass, and Mitch on guitar and keys. Without trying to be cliche, the rest is history.

Who are your biggest inspirations in music?

As a band, undeniably we drift towards 60-70’s Rock, you can usually find us listening to a lot of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. We also all have a big love for the Aussie and NZ bands hitting the scene at the moment. Over the past year we’ve all been listening to a lot of Dan Auerbach and Arctic Monkeys, absolutely loving how they’ve created such a nostalgic sound in their music.

How do you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard a Silky Roads song?

Although describing our music to others is something we often struggle with, we’d sum it up as a Slow Burn Groove.

Can we expect live shows from Silky Roads when restrictions ease?

We have spent COVID (post lockdown) jamming and refining our live sound. With all bands globally struggling with gigs at the moment, we hope that we can join the charge in re-establishing the live music scene in Australia and New Zealand. We recently played a couple of shows at The Factory Theatre, with more shows in the works. Keep posted!
