A Quick Chat with Ninoosh

How did you get into music?

I started my music journey playing the trumpet. Then in my teens I discovered Björk, Lamb and Jewel. I wrote my first track Deeper and Deeper when I was 14. Now I use Ableton Live to produce music. I have released an EP and two albums under the moniker Ninoosh.

How is the music scene in Sweden different to here?

I lived in Malmö, which is kind of like a bite-sized Melbourne/Naarm. It is more accessible and intimate than the Melbourne scene. I miss living there.

What inspired the music video for 'That Sinking Feeling'?

I love animated film clips so wanted to create one featuring my dog Wilson. Asher McShane from the Jacky Winter Group is very talented and was able to really absorb my vision and create something special.

Can you tell us a bit about your collective Synth Babes? Why did you start it and what is it about?

I started it in Sweden as a response to the male-heavy electronic music scene. It basically aims to promote and support women and gender diverse electronic musicians in their endeavours. We have released a handful of compilations and put on festivals in Europe. It's been on a hiatus over the last year due to my bad mental health. I'm getting better though so may be well enough to do activities again.

Do you have plans for new music soon?

I'm currently working on a new song, it should be ready soon. I've had problems with my throat so it's been tricky to work on new material.

Who are three Australian artists we should have on our radar?

Holly Hebe and Nabii. I'm a little out of the loop with Aussie artists to be completely honest. From overseas check out Raudur and Loljud, they are awesome.
