A Quick Chat with Mr Chrisy Mertas
Congrats on your sophomore album! Tell us a bit about ‘So Far From Punk’
We wrote it in Arnhem Land and it’s about living in isolation in Arnhem Land, NT. Its about drinking beers with your mates and about the struggles and rewards of living in such a beautiful place!
Where did the name Mr Chrisy Mertas originate from?
Simply put it's an anagram, we like people to come up with their own theories on how it came about!
What’s your favourite show you’ve played so far?
We have played so many amazing shows in front of some ripper crowds, a bucket list tick for us was getting a slot at Bass In The Grass. But playing in our hometown at East Arnhem Live is so special for us, it’s a hard one to beat!
Which artists are on your high rotation playlist right now?
We find ourselves often spinning Fontaines DC, Oasis, Turnstile, IDLES and Beddy Rays at the moment!
What TV show are you bingeing at the moment?
Ned loves Better Call Saul. But mostly we just watch cartoons!
What was the first gig / concert you ever went to?
Yothu Yindi at Garma, right here in Arnhem Land!
Plans for 2025/26
For the rest of 2025 we’re jumping on the social media grind to promote the new album, which we’ve already had some awesome reviews and nationwide radio play on Triple J.
We’re planning to play some shows out of the Territory in 2026, hopefully we’ll be able to get down to the east coast for a MCM tour to strut our stuff!
