A Quick Chat with Lizzie Hosking

You’ve been performing since you were 17 - what first got you hooked on music?

The first thing that got me hooked on music was the feeling of performing, I have always loved getting up on stage and singing my own music as well as others. But writing my own music and having the crowd sing along to my lyrics has been some of my favourite moments.

Your new single Mother is Medusa takes things in a more dark, intense route with an upbeat pop direction. What changed for you creatively?

I think this kind of music has always been in me, and I have been nervous to be opinionated in my songwriting, but this fire and intensity has been burning in me and chipping away at me that I felt it was time to write a song that really meant a lot to me.

You’ve played a lot of festivals and stages around Adelaide. What makes a great live show for you?

A great live show for me starts with a really clear direction and theme, being cohesive and having great vibes with your band members, I absolutely adore my band and we have worked together for a few years now. We love each other and i think it really shows on stage. The crowd also really affects the performance, having a supportive and excited crowd makes a show 10x better for the artist, I really feed off the crowd when I’m performing.

What can people expect from the Mother is Medusa single launch at Jive in Adelaide?

Think Halloween event, costumes, decorations, a couple creepy songs. It’s going to be an incredible show with an awesome lineup of pop girls. I’ve also made an exclusive merch line just for this gig which is donating 50% of profits to Access2Arts. My disability representation is a big part of my music journey and is super important to me so I wanted to make sure it was included.

You’re planning to travel more with your music in 2027. Where would you most like to take your music?

I have previously taken my music and performances to the United Kingdom, living and writing there for a year. But now I’d love to extend beyond the UK, perhaps to Europe, or the United States. I am really excited to see what next year has in store for me, and touring internationally would be huge.

What’s one thing you’ve got planned in the next year?

I am actually planning to release my Sophomore EP, an EP about resilience, self love and confidence. I am really excited for it and we are planning to take it on the road!!
