A Quick Chat with CYRIL

Early on, social media played a big role in your rise. How important has that direct connection with fans been compared to traditional industry pathways?

Absolutely, social media has played a big role for me. You have to really dive into social media and interacting with your fanbase is really important to me. It’s a great platform to get noticed and popular on but even when you have got a viral video on social media, it is not like you have made it, there are years and years of trying to build – I’m only in my second year and I’m still working hard on building my relationship with my fans and my status in the music industry. It’s important to show your personality and make people fall in love with you and then linking your story in with your songs and stuff like that. With fan interactions, I love them! At a hard ticket show there will be like 600 people there and after the show I try to stay at the venue until like an hour and a half after the show and get to know them. It is always great fun.

You have done some amazing remixes which have given classic songs new life. What draws you to reworking familiar tracks and how do you choose the songs which you are going to remix?

I think I’ve stopped really diving into what songs I should choose to try and remix, it was sort of a growing point for me coming into the music industry to try and show what I’ve got. Stumblin’ In and The Sound of Silence and heaps of others were created to build a fanbase that enjoyed the same music that I enjoyed as a kid but now it’s more people reaching out and asking me to remix a song – like Ed Sheeran asked me to remix camera for him so I will go ahead and do those remixes but then I am trying to focus more on writing a lot of my own stuff and not just dance music either, I have dived into country music, folk music and with the hope of showing people a different side of me and what I can write and produce over the next few years.

Australia has such a strong dance music culture. How do Aussie crowds compare to the international crowds that you have played infront of?

The crowds here are different. When you start out as an artist it is very hit or miss in Australia but then once you become a known name in parts of the country and you start getting heaps of fans to your shows, they are the best fans in the world. If they don’t know you then they’ll definitely show you that they don’t, so I think that part of it is quite different. The Europeans and Americans are just as good and it’s really hard to pick a favourite between any of the audiences.

A busy end to 2025 with BTV and Rhythm and Vines to round it out. How does 2026 look for you and is there anything in particular that you are looking forward to this year?

I’m really looking forward to playing at the BBL Melbourne Derby tomorrow night for the Melbourne Renegades ( DJing and definitely not playing because I’m hopeless at Cricket!). I’m excited for that show because I love watching cricket and the crowds and energy is always amazing. Then later on in the year I have some big shows coming up like Tomorrowland, which is going to be great. I’m doing a show in the French Alps and then a few other things that haven’t been announced yet. There’s going to be a lot of shows and it’s going to be a big, big year but I’m really looking forward to it.

You performed at the Melbourne Derby last year and will be doing so again tomorrow night – why do you enjoy performing at this game so much? What makes it different to the other shows?

Honestly, it’s the atmosphere – like just performing to real Aussies who are out on a Saturday night and having a good time with their mates at the game. You also get to meet plenty of fans and larrikins down there as well, it’s always a great time.

Last of all, are you a Cricket fan and who is your tip for tomorrow tonight?

I enjoy watching the Cricket when I can, I was really excited that Thirsty Merc were performing at the game tomorrow night as well – I’ve always wanted to see them live so I’ll be getting down early and supporting them for sure. As for my tip - I hope it’s a good, close game but I am tipping the Melbourne Renegades tomorrow night because they always support me.
