REVIEW: Superheaven - 170 Russell, Melbourne
Written by: Lachlan Bradford
There are hot gigs. Then there was last night at 170 Russell.
Packed room, zero oxygen, sweat dripping from the ceiling.
Angel Du$t walked into that and owned it straight away. Justice Tripp had the crowd in the palm of his hands from the first second. No warm-up. Just chaos.
The Beat, Sippin’ Lysol, Set Me Up and Bad Thing all hit hard, and closing with Stepping Stone sent it over the edge. The whole room lost it.
Then Superheaven came on and flipped the mood.
Everything got heavier. The guitars were louder than anything I’ve heard before. The bass was massive. The distortion and riffs just swallowed the room.
They opened with Sponge, which set it perfectly. Cruel Times hit heavy, Knew brought that instant nostalgia, and Numb to What Is Real slapped live.
It’s been ten years since they’ve been in Australia and you could feel it. The crowd was locked in, heads snapping back and forth the whole set.
No gimmicks. No overproduction. Just two bands doing exactly what they’re meant to do, in a venue that feels built for it.
Sweaty. Loud. A little bit dangerous.
