REVIEW: Ocean Grove - 170 Russell, Melbourne
Written by: Lachlan Bradford
If you weren’t sweating by the time Ocean Grove hit the stage, you weren’t there early enough. DREGG and Diamond Construct opened the night with pure chaos. Bodies flying, pit spinning, and enough raw energy to fuel a small power grid.
Ocean Grove rolled out to a jam packed 170 Russell, celebrating 10 years of Black Label while ushering in their new era with Oddworld. It felt more like a hometown reunion than a gig. Tight band, close friends, and a room full of diehards screaming every word. They wasted no time diving into the old faithfuls. B.L.U.D. and Backbone still slap like day one, tearing the place apart.
The new stuff is built for the stage. Fly Away, Stunner, and Raindrop had the floor bouncing, with grins from the band matching the crowd’s energy. This wasn’t just a setlist, it was a celebration.
Ten years on, and Ocean Grove are still building their world, brick by weird, beautiful brick. Sunday night shows like this are why you never skip the last day of the weekend. An all in, no holds barred reminder that the Oddworld isn’t just alive, it’s thriving.
