SYDNEY, NSW (July 4, 2017) – Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, world renowned festival and musical takeover Red Bull Music Academy Weekender returns to the city of Sydney for its sophomore year.

Taking place from August 31st  – September 3rd, the curatorial series of live performances, conversations with pioneering artists, club nights and audio-visual installations will descend upon Sydney’s unique boroughs for a thrilling exploration of musical identity. Paving the path for Red Bull Music Academy Weekender’s eagerly awaited Sydney return, the Road to Weekender will travel to Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane for a series of select signature events & public lectures from the Sydney line up from August 26th - August 31st.

Joining previous host cities - Dubai, Tokyo, Vienna, Warsaw, Johannesburg and Stockholm - Red Bull Music Academy Weekender Sydney centres recognition on the global icons and young talents driving progression and new ideas in music. In 2016, 11 events with over 40 artists took place across multiple locales for Sydney’s first-ever Weekender festival. The four-day affair saw Flight Facilities and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra take over Sydney’s Domain, godfather of house Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers make his Australian debut, seminal LA label Stones Throw celebrate their 20th Anniversary & Italian composer Gigi Masin score a starlit evening of ambience. The program resumes in 2017 with an inclusive celebration and exploration of contemporary music. Red Bull Radio will be broadcasting live from across the festival, featuring special guests, conversations and local stories, plus livestreams from Red Bull Music Academy Weekender highlight events.

Red Bull Music Academy has held a legacy of cultural celebration for almost 20 years, providing unique music experiences between fans and some of the world’s most astute tastemakers and performers. The Academy has been a long-running cultural pioneer in Australia through their club nights, stages at Splendour in the Grass & Laneway Festival and most recently Transliminal, an industrial-scale transcendental rave at Hobart City Hall for Dark Mofo. Having hosted artists like Jamie xx, Thundercat, Four Tet, Nicolas Jaar, Onra & Mark Pritchard, Red Bull Music Academy strives to foster creativity in music, encouraging collaboration and expression at home and abroad.
