Sydneyβs inaugural Good Saturday Festival steps out with a stellar first line-up for its one-day, all ages block party; combining iconic rock royalty, nourishing eats and top-notch brewers, all converging on a Marrickville laneway this Easter long weekend.
Boasting a bill headed by indie rock heroes, the boutique, family-friendly festival is a celebration of Sydneyβs Inner West and its community, as much as it is live music.
With a stack of records under their belt and a multitude of festival slots and tours, You Am I bring their theatrics to headline the stage, whilst after five long years and a new album on the way Something For Kate are ready to treat Marrickville to a sneak peak. Returning last year from a four year break, the phenomenal Blues and Roots ARIA Award winner C.W. Stoneking will showcase his storytelling prowess, and fresh from dropping their acclaimed sixth album Augie March will hit the stage for the first time since its release. Rounding out the line up are next big things ARIA Award winners All Our Exes Live In Texas, Jen Cloher, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks and Andy Golledge Band.
Celebrating the golden era of festival food, thereβll be delectable offerings from Sydney institution Porteno, legendary burgers from iconic joint Maryβs, and deep-dish, Detroit-style pizza by The Lansdowne Hotel, with Frank Strongβs Taco Stand, Vejoeβs, Sparkyβs Jerk Chicken and Inbocca rounding out the nosh contingent.
Thereβs no doubt The Inner West Brewerβs Association know good beer and theyβve specially curated a range to compliment the vast array of food on offer, with drops from cult favourites Young Henrys, Batch, Willie the Boatman, Sauce, Philter, The Grifter and Waywards. To assure theyβre up to scratch, Good Saturday had the most discerning beer fans β Tim Rogers and Paul Dempsey β try and test the brews on an IWBA crawl, with praise for each one.
The newbie festival follows in the footsteps of legendary sister event, the nine year running Bad Friday, from organisers The Music and Booze Company(bookers of Sydney stalwart The Lansdowne, Party In The Paddock, Mountain Sounds Festival, Festival Of The Sun and organisers of βKing Street Crawlβ and βBeer, Footy, Food Festivalβ) and Architects of Entertainment (the production/event management behind Splendour in the Grass, Laneway Festival, CMC Rocks, Lost Paradise, Mountain Sounds Festival, Fairgrounds Festival and more), both champions of the Inner West.
Good Saturday will also raise money for two local charities with revellers able to add nominal sums to their ticket in support of Father Chris Rileyβs Youth Off The Streets, a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people, as well as Aboriginal Women and Childrenβs Crisis Service for services and crisis accommodation.
Good tunes, good food, good liquor, Good Saturday is the Easter tradition not to be missed.
