A Quick Chat wtih Club Halifax
Congrats on the release of your debut album, Bugs! Can you tell us a bit more about the record’s themes / meaning?
Thank you!! We're so incredibly happy to have it out in the world! The themes are really broad, but basically, you can't have one emotion without the other. There are lots of elements of pain in there, but you can't experience the lighter moments without that pain, and you can't really appreciate the lighter moments without it either. So it's all of those parts of being a messy human being, rolled into one project. ~ Bree
You released two EPs in 2024, one in 2025 and now your debut album in 2026 - where does that constant stream of new music come from?
CB (drummer) comes up with a billion songs every year. There's a backlog of about 100 that we're still getting through. We're always creating, and because we all have such broad taste in music, we constantly have inspiration to draw from. CB honestly has something wrong with him. He's creating all the time, and he has the discipline to keep doing it, which helps the rest of us stay in that mode too. It's a nice little bubble, like an ecosystem of ideas and creating. ~ Bree
How do you feel your sound has evolved in the lead up to Bugs?
That's a good question, because we originally thought it was going to be a lot darker and heavier. I think we found our sound more while recording this album, and our producer Ollie really helped us get there. We didn't try to make it anything. It is what it is, and that's just how we sound. In the past we've been a bit more angsty, and this feels more mature in a way. There are still emo moments, but I guess that's part of being in your late 20s. Being in a really comfortable space, out in nature and with our mates, made the record far more authentic to what our sound actually is. ~ Bree
What’s your favourite show you’ve played so far?
Oooo we've played a lot of fun shows, but supporting Rageflower earlier this year was a lot of fun
Which artists are on your high rotation playlist right now?
Bree - Hot Glue, Mima and the band, Molly Payton, Coldplay (but only the viva la vida album)
CB - Great Grandpa, Wednesday, Death Cab for Cutie
Hop - Clover County, Origami Angel, Florence Road, Billy Strings
What was the first gig / concert you ever went to?
Bree - Hi-5 and Kelly waved at me from out the window when we were walking in and I was in hysterics because I was so so excited
CB - The Jungle Giants at the Metro Theatre (dream venue to play). Hop was there too
Hop - Probably Lee Kernaghan when I was a kid
Plans for the rest of the year?
We're going on tour! Playing shows up and down the east coast including two super special mini fests with the most amazing bands in Brissy and Sydney. Come hang out :)
