A Quick Chat with the stamps
Congratulations on the release of your debut album In All The Ways I Am! Can you tell us a bit about the record, what it was like making it and how it feels to have it out in the world?
Thank you! We are super excited for it to be out, it feels like it’s been years in the making. The album is a collection of diary-entry type songs that were written over the past three years. They are the essence of our friendship over the years and touch on lots of themes relating to growing up – finding and losing love, travelling, moving cities etc.
– Sofia
Where did you record the album, and what was that like? Were there any highlights or lowlights?
We recorded the album at The Grove Studios along the central coast of NSW. We spent five days tucked away in the bush, staying on-site at the studio. It was super intense as we were working from early in the morning till late at night.
A highlight would have to be working with Tom Josephs and Owen Butterworth, we had the best time ever, it felt like a five-day sleepover and by the end of it, they had become one of the girls!!
– Rubina
Did some songs come together more quickly than others? What are your personal favourites?
Yes. Some of them feel like they came out of nowhere, such as My City, which we all wrote together in one afternoon about a week before we temporarily moved from Perth/Boorloo to Melbourne/Naarm. Others took a bit of time to tweak and arrange like Slow Burn – we worked on the lyrics while in the studio and are super happy with how the story comes across. It’s hard to pick favourites, they are our babies! If we had to choose… Rubina’s is, Scarlett’s would be In All The Ways I Am, and for Sofia probably Move Me On.

We heard you met at high school and ended up staying in touch through snail mail once Scarlett moved back to Canada! What was that experience like as new friends, did it go on to inspire your music at all?
Yes!! I (Scarlett) came on exchange for six months at Fremantle College, which is where we met. I hadn’t really explored songwriting fully until I came to Fremantle, and I consider it the catalyst of my songwriting. It was such an intense period of my life and being surrounded by music at school with the girls inspired me to use songwriting as an outlet. We’re all very nostalgic people, so when I left, snail mail felt like the appropriate way to keep in touch. It inspired the name and really reflects our inclination towards expressing big feelings. We have never been people that are afraid to express everything we feel, and we are so lucky to have found friends that encourage that side of ourselves.
– Scarlett
What are you most looking forward to now that your album has been released?
Honestly, writing new music! Releasing this album feels like making a time capsule of our friendship and our lives, and so we are so excited to put it out and let people into that world while starting on the next era!

Your In All The Ways I Am national album tour is right around the corner. What can we expect to see at a stamps live show?
We are genuinely buzzing about this tour. We are working really hard to give the best show we’ve got. Expect lots of anecdotes (we love to yap on stage), pop-drenched harmonies, one-mic magic, and many big feelings.
