A Quick Chat with Shorehaven

Shorehaven turn up the heat with Oh, Baby!, an explosive indie pop punk single and vibrant music video. The Boorloo female-fronted outfit channels early 2000s nostalgia through thick guitar tones, punchy rhythms, and tongue-in-cheek lyricism, capturing the chaos that erupts when love and creative partnership collide. Produced by Matthew Templeman, the track marks a confident shift toward a sharper pop punk edge while holding onto the band’s melodic core. Known for their high-energy live shows alongside the likes of Teenage Joans and Sly Withers, Shorehaven continue to evolve with playful self-awareness and bite. We caught up with the band to talk about the single, the video, and more.

Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?

This track really marks the change in our attitude towards music as a whole; having fun and not taking ourselves too seriously. As soon as we let go of our preconceived expectations it really allowed the creative process to flow naturally. At its core, this track is a love song, and the whole process from writing, recording, to filming the music video was so full of love and joy. We really hope those feelings translate through the song to the listener.

Who are some of the band's influences, and why?

We all have a massive, MASSIVE range of influences! Hannah definitely leans to the writing styles of Boygenius’ own Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, along with the indie-rockers solo works as well. Aidan takes a lot of inspiration off Queens Roger Taylor, whilst recently looking up to and studying the technicalities of Sleep Token’s drummer, known as Vessel II. Isaac - being our resident emo of the band - shows he isn’t afraid to bleed his favourite genre into shorehaven’s sound, frequently referencing Jeph Howard from The Used as a major citation to his playing style, and Connor brings a sense of Jeff Buckey’s melancholic, emotional playing, along with rock elements from Matt Bellamy and Jonny Greenwood to the band. All in all, the wide variety and vast differences between our influences is what allows us to create such a unique sound.

What's the band's creative process, from writing through to recording?

It really depends, we take things on a track by track basis. It usually starts with myself (Hannah) and my guitar writing the basic lyrics and chords, then the band will completely transform it. More recently we’ve been working backwards, rather than recording drums first we’ve actually been recording everything else and then drums last. We’ve found this really lets the track develop in the studio and turn into something 10 times better than we could’ve imagined.

What do you think makes a great song?

Anything that can evoke an emotion, also us, duh!

If Shorehaven could collaborate with any band, who would it be and why?

Dream collaboration at the moment would be with The Buoys, we have been huge fans for years and had the privilege of supporting them back in early 2025! Since then we have developed a great friendship with these incredible ladies and are loving the sonic direction they are heading in. Serious girl power!!

When you're not working on music, what other creative outlet (s) do you each have?

Isaac: doing nice things for Chelsea (Isaac’s partner)

Conor: cooking and logistic video games

Aidan: Lego, and more recently colouring in

Hannah: spending time outdoors with the people I love

Who are some local bands we should check out?

Most definitely all of the incredible female-fronted bands we have supporting us for our upcoming launch shows, including Rosalie Chilvers, Aleia, Bella Dyer, Navy June and Shadow Planet! Can’t go without mentioning some of our all time favourites, Ricky Neil Jr., Spici Water, Noah Dillon, Last Quokka and Ullah, we are so spoilt for choice here in Boorloo/Perth we could go on forever!

Winter or summer and why?

Isaac: summer because it’s easier to get out of bed

Conor: winter because you can always put on more layers if you’re cold, there’s only so many you can take off when it’s hot

Aidan: winter because not a fan of the heat

Hannah: summer because beach, winter because I love cuddling up on the couch by the fire

What else do you have planned for the year?

We are currently in the process of recording our biggest project yet which we are so excited to share with everyone, by far our favourite and most authentically us we’ve ever sounded. If you’re liking our slightly heavier and punky sound, there’s plenty more to come!
