A Quick Chat with Buttermello
Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration for the single ‘Dreaming Still’?
Dreaming Still is a song that resonates with the universal experience of grappling with passage of time and the pressure of reaching certain milestones. Sonically the song is heavily inspired by the American indie/Surf Rock scene with bands such as Real Estate and Sun Room which was amazing when we actually got to support SunRoom on their Australian tour recently.
What are the band's influences and how do they affect your songwriting?
Buttermello draws influence from a wide range of indie rock and pop styles. This diversity of influences can contribute to a unique and dynamic sound for the band, allowing them to incorporate elements from various genres and eras into their music and hopefully strike a chord with a wide audience.
What’s the creative process for Buttermello?
The creative process differs from song to song, originally the songs started from lead singer Brandon where all the parts were mostly fleshed out before handing the reins to the rest of the band to finish the song. But more recently songs have been started by other band members with a guitar lick or progression and then a whole song would be written around that.
If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?
I think I'd love to see more mainstream radio stations around Australia have segments similar to a triple J unearthed and push more unearthed Australian artists.
What do you think life would be like without beer, a parmy and pub trivia?
Well a lot more household chores would get done on a Thursday night that's for sure.
Is there anyone Buttermello would like to collaborate with? Why?
I'd love to collaborate with Dan Hume who's a big producer in Australia. Everything that man's touched has turned to absolute gold.
What is a fun fact about Sunroom?
So way long before we had the opportunity to jump on a line-up with Sun Room (USA) we'd used one of their songs as a reference track to mix our song just released 'Dreaming Still'
Who’s the most interesting band you’ve played alongside?
The most interesting band we've with played with is probably the Moving Stills due to the fact they make packets of digestives as part of their rider.
Any plans for a tour on the cards?
We do have plans for a tour, the plans are in their very early stages but we've got a decent catalogue of music ready to be released this year with some super exciting songs. So hopefully that creates enough groundswell to make it financially viable to get us on the road.
