A Quick Chat with Lizzie Hosking
Lizzie Hosking returns to her electro-pop roots with unforgettable, a sleek, late-night anthem that captures the electric spark of a fleeting connection. The Adelaide singer-songwriter blends dreamy vocals, pulsing synths, and dancefloor-ready production into a dark-pop release that feels nostalgic and fresh. Following a creative chapter in London and her recent selection for the Helpmann Academy's Creative Innovator Program, Lizzie continues to refine her distinctive sound with a track that shimmers with chemistry, tension, and pop polish. We caught up with Lizzie to talk about unforgettable, the inspiration behind it, and what's next.
Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?
This is an energetic, exciting track touching on the idea of that quick spark you feel with someone you've never met before. Wanting the night with them to last forever because you don't know when you might see them again β think Cinderella meets Britney Spears.
Who are some of your influences, and why?
Some of my influences for this song include Tate McRae and Ariana Grande. Their melody writing and vocals always really captivate me, and their darker pop has really resonated with me and continues to weave its way into my own personal songwriting style.
What's the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?
My creative process always starts with a drum track. For this song I layered two drum tracks and LOVED how it sounded β very 00s Britney vibes. I wanted to capture the feeling the drum track was giving me through the lyrics: sensual, exciting and confident.
After I have my lyrics and melodies, I actually recorded this song at home. This is the first song I've fully produced on my own and it's been a long goal of mine to be able to do that. Once I finish recording we add all the bells and whistles to turn it into the fun track it is now.
What do you think makes a great song?
I think a great song comes from a musician telling a story that means something to them. Creating music that feeds the creator's soul as well as the listener is incredible. A bit of time, love and care, and a great drum track is, in my opinion, what makes a killer song.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
If I ever got the opportunity to collaborate with an artist it would be Ariana Grande. I have been a lifelong fan, and the way she stacks her harmonies and works in the studio is mesmerising. I would love to learn from her and sing with her. She's amazing.
When not working on music, what other creative outlet/s do you have?
I love painting and gardening β and painting gardens. I have a fairy garden, and creating all the beautiful colours throughout it is so whimsical and cute that it's hard not to want to paint it.
Who are some local bands we should check out?
Some local artists in Adelaide you should check out are Ember Ally, Sofia Menguita, Effie Isobel and Piper Wallin. They're all super cool, making lots of different types of music, and all sooo talented.
Winter or summer and why?
Summer. I used to be such a winter girly, but the fashion is so much more fun in summer. Beach plus pool beats a winter cold any day. BUT I truly think autumn is where it's at.
What do you have planned for the rest of the year?
I have sooo many exciting things happening soon, so keep an eye out! I have a really cool story coming out later this year, which is going to be partnered with a really fun show. I am also travelling to London in August to work with some amazing artists and perform over there. Can't wait!!
