A Quick Chat with Mister Co.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
We are Mister Co., a Naarm/Melbourne-based music collective and live events company dedicated to building community through music. We blur the lines between being an artist project and a live promoter. Right now, we are gearing up to release our sophomore EP in 2026, which is a collaborative project spotlighting emerging voices from Melbourneβs thriving music scene. It's been an incredible journey lately we released our debut album and a live album in 2024, sold out iconic venues like The Night Cat and The Toff, and took our 14-piece live band on an East Coast tour. In 2025, we dropped our Homegrown EP and performed at some great festivals, including supporting Sneaky Sound System at the Moonee Valley Twilight Festival. To top it off, we are currently preparing for the second edition of our flagship event, Homegrown Festival, which returns to The Bourke Street Courtyard in November 2026 with 26 artists across 3 stages.
How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover "Mister Co."?
We are leaning heavily into collaboration and live connections. This year, we are releasing four singles that are all collaborations with incredible independent Melbourne artists. We are also performing in festivals across Australia and taking our music straight to the people with our City of Melbourne street takeovers. For anyone just discovering us, our message is simple: we are here to create, connect, and celebrate music that brings people together.
Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
We are constantly inspired by artists like Allen Stone and Olivia Dean for their immense vocal talent and soul. However, we are equally inspired by the local independent artists right here in Melbourne who are grinding every single day to get their music out into the world. When it comes to making our own music, we find inspiration in that magic pocket where the lyrics perfectly meet the sonic vibes of the music.
Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, "Monsters."?
We started writing "Monsters" during a time when it felt like people were becoming numb to the chaos and violence happening around the world, and it struck us how quickly those moments disappear from the conversation. The song became a reflection on how fear can shape people, and how easy it is to lose empathy when things feel unstable. At its core, "Monsters" is an anthem about pushing back against that fear and actively choosing compassion, even when itβs difficult.
How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
"Genre-fluid." Our sets are highly energetic, and we pride ourselves on delivering dynamic live shows with cross-genre appeal. "Monsters," for example, leans into a nostalgic yet contemporary Fleetwood Mac-inspired pop-rock sound, but depending on the track, you'll hear elements of soul, R&B, and funk.
Did you face any challenges while writing or recording "Monsters"?
Honestly, the collaborative process with Tahlia Eve and Mason Jay was incredibly effortless. We all felt the exact same message, which made bringing together some of the city's most exciting upcoming voices feel very natural. Working out how to blend the warm guitars, driving rhythms, and layered vocals came together beautifully. We also have to give a massive shoutout to Labracadabra Studios and Julien for their incredible work on the track.
What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
The message is always to bring joy to listeners, whether they are streaming us on Spotify or dancing in the crowd while we are on stage. Our ultimate mission is to continue to champion homegrown talent, grow audiences, and deliver festival-ready performances. We want to prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
Prince, without a doubt. He is the king of funk and soul. His music, his boundary-pushing creativity, and his legacy are still inspiring artists every single day.
What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
Keep moving the needle forward. Be incredibly clear on your mission and share your authentic story with the world. Write the music that you want to write, and trust that your audience will find it.
If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
"Just start." Stop waiting for the right time, because it doesn't exist. Be brave, be bold, and push yourself in any way you can, because that is where you truly learn and grow.
